How many of you have a sweet tooth? I think I was born with a few. All my life I've enjoyed sweets without ever contemplating the effect of all those processed sugars I once consumed. Now that I am a mother of two toddlers I am growing more aware of some of the major side effects of unnatural sweets. When you know better, you do better. So I've decided to become conscious of the food choices I make for myself and family. Through lots of research, major trial and error, and sheer luck I have become a master at snack hacks for my children.
I love chocolate, and wish I could eat it all day everyday. Once I discovered Raw Cacao I realized I actually CAN eat it everyday! Cacao, not to be confused with Cocoa, is the purest form of chocolate you can consume. Raw Cacao has almost 4x the amount of antioxidants found in regular processed chocolate. This plant based phenomenon does everything from boosting serotonin levels to improving digestion. I love it for myself because it creates loads of energy, which every mama needs to keep up these days. Don't get me started on my never ending to-do list, sigh.
Here I have created a simple but oh so tasty treat that the whole family can enjoy. Now keep in mind I am no Martha Stewart. I rarely measure anything (ain't nobody got time for that), and almost always add more of something once I've tasted the results.
Shock-A-Lot Shake Recipe
- 3 spoons of raw cacao powder(any table spoon will do)
- 1 frozen banana
- Almond milk
- 1/2 Avocado
Keep in mind a few of these ingredients can be substituted. For example You can have your choice in milk, however I would stick to a plant/nut based milk to insure to maximum absorption of nutrients. The avocado adds a nice creamy texture but you could skip it. Add all ingredients to your blender while playing Kelis's Milkshake song. Don't skip that part :) And tadaaaaa, Mom of the year award goes tooooo......YOU!!!!!! You Get a hug, You get a hug, Everybody Gets a Hug!
